Synopsis

WILD BOREAL is an intimate, year-long journey into one of Earth’s last great wildernesses — the vast Boreal Forest, which stretches across the northern hemisphere, from North America to Scandinavia. It is the largest land ecosystem on Earth, a living bridge between continents, and one of the few places where apex predators still reign.

Guided by the life of a young female wolverine, the film reveals a hidden world where survival demands not just strength, but intelligence, resilience, and fierce adaptability. Through her sharp senses and restless path, we encounter the full cast of boreal creatures: brown bears shaking off winter’s grip, wolves weaving through the mist, moose calves finding their legs in sunlit clearings, and capercaillies clashing in ancient mating dances.

In the boreal forest, life clings to ancient rhythms. Here, the seasons are not gentle. Winter locks the land under a fortress of snow and ice, testing every creature’s endurance. Spring comes like a flood, a brief, frantic season when the forest explodes with life — and with risk. Summer brings a fragile abundance, where food is plenty but so are predators, and autumn is a race against the fading light to prepare for the long, punishing winter once more.

The wolverine survives not by force but by cleverness — scavenging from wolf kills, stealing from bears, and caching precious food under snowdrifts. She is small in a world of giants, and every decision she makes carries the weight of survival. Yet even in this harsh landscape, connection stirs. A brief and wild courtship with a wandering male offers a glimpse of new life to come: fragile cubs, hidden beneath the snow, waiting for the thaw.

Through her journey, we see not only her struggle but the delicate, interconnected lives of the Boreal’s inhabitants. Every creature, from the mighty bear to the smallest owl, is part of a vast, breathing tapestry, each dependent on the forest’s fragile balance.

WILD BOREAL is not simply the story of one animal. It is a rare glimpse into a living world where ancient forces continue to shape the lives of those who call it home. In the heart of one of Earth’s last true wildernesses, survival belongs not to the strongest, but to the most adaptable — and life endures, not because it is easy, but because it must.
