Synopsis

The Philippines have been formed by Earth’s powerful forces for millions of years. Oceans, seas, volcanos and the diverse marine life at the edge of the Coral Triangle make these islands a truly unique natural paradise on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Across the Pacific, more than 7,500 islands form the Philippines, a tropical world shaped by fire and water. In Mindanao’s misty forests, rare Philippine eagles raise their single chick, while on Luzon young crocodiles hatch beside ancient river giants. Red-vented cockatoos gather on remote islands before risking long flights to Palawan in search of food. Beneath the waves, sea kraits drift between reef and shore, and the mimic octopus astonishes by copying other animals. In the deep blue beyond volcanic shores, gentle whale sharks patrol the open sea, revealing a land of extraordinary wildlife and natural wonders.

Scattered across the Pacific, more than 7,500 islands rise from the ocean — a vast tropical world shaped by water, wind, and time. Above the canopy, the call of the Visayan hornbill — a rare jewel of the skies — rings through the trees. At the center of it all lies Palawan: an island of emerald mountains, hidden coves, and species found nowhere else. From dense rainforest to vibrant reefs, this is a journey through a lost Eden — wild, wondrous, and alive.

The country’s biodiversity is considered one of the greatest in the world. However, rising sea levels once again threaten to significantly alter the face of the region, with far-reaching consequences for people, flora and fauna. How will the animals and plants of the Philippines react to the rapid and dramatic climate changes facing the region?
