Tall, slender trees rise from a misty, haunted forest floor with dense fog obscuring the background, creating a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere. Soft sunlight filters through the canopy, illuminating green leaves and undergrowth.

Synopsis

In the vast primeval forest of Bialowieza in Eastern Europe, Halloween has an older name: Dziady. For centuries, this forest was feared as a place of spirits, monsters and untamed nature, but beneath its haunted reputation lies one of Europe’s richest wildernesses.

The Haunted Forest journeys through twisted trees, glowing wetlands and moonlit clearings to uncover the real creatures behind the myths. Wolves shape a healthy landscape of fear, glowworms and will-o’-the-wisps turn darkness into living light, toads gather in chaotic spring rituals, and nightjars, eagle owls, fungi, beetles, ravens and bison reveal a forest where death, decay and renewal are tightly connected. What begins as a nightmare of nature becomes a portrait of a forest that can frighten, heal and sustain.
