Across Italy, fire, wind and currents shape the lives of animals, from volcanoes and alpine storms to sea cliffs, forests and the deep Mediterranean.
Active volcanoes hurl lava and ash into the sky. The hot Scirocco wind carries the dust more than a thousand kilometres across forests, seas and mountain ranges, all the way to the glaciers of the Alps. Drawn along by these winds, painted lady butterflies and migratory birds travel north from Africa, ocean sunfish rise from the deep sea, while wolves and brown bears roam through ancient mountain wilderness.
Winter brings a dramatic reversal. Cold Tramontana winds sweep south from the Alps to the Mediterranean. Eleonora’s falcons breed on steep sea cliffs, storms roll across the coastlines, and snow falls on active volcanoes.
A two-part wildlife documentary about animals whose lives are guided by fire, wind and currents – in a land shaped by the breath of its natural forces: Italy.
