Terra Mater Studios Launches the Wildlife Footage AI Free Seal

Terra Mater Studios is proud to announce the launch of the Wildlife Footage AI Free Seal, presented during the Jackson Wild Festival and the Wildscreen Festival.

Developed under the Alliance for Responsible Use of AI in Natural History Filmmaking, this open-source initiative establishes an industry-wide framework to ensure authenticity, transparency, and ethical integrity in the use of artificial intelligence across wildlife and natural history productions.

As generative AI rapidly transforms creative industries, the Seal serves as a clear commitment to trust and truth. It recognizes productions that adhere to shared ethical standards, helping safeguard the credibility of genuine, unaltered footage in an era increasingly saturated with synthetic content.

More Information

While AI can be a valuable tool in production, its use must remain transparent and must never recreate or simulate natural phenomena that were not actually captured. At its core, the framework is guided by one golden rule:

Anything that can be captured with a camera must not be recreated or altered with AI.

The Wildlife Footage AI Free Seal stands on four key principles:

  • Authenticity: All animal, human, and landscape scenes are captured by real cameras in real environments.

  • Human Oversight: Every AI-assisted element is directed and approved by a named human creative.

  • Transparency: Any AI use that could influence audience perception is clearly disclosed.

  • Ethical Integrity: No deepfakes, unauthorized likenesses, or misleading synthetic content are used.

The Seal is free and open to use across the industry, from broadcast productions and festival submissions to digital content, and represents a collective commitment to keeping natural history storytelling real.
